Subaru, TerraCycle team up to divert hard-to-recycle waste from landfills

Subaru of America, a subsidiary of Japan’s Subaru, has partnered with TerraCycle to help divert hard-to-recycle waste from landfills and repurpose into community solutions.

Starting in this month, the companies will help in diverting hard-to-recycle waste from landfills and incinerators through the Subaru's environmentally-focused philanthropic platform, Subaru Loves the Earth.

As part of this effort, participating Subaru retailers will receive TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes, in order to encourage customers to recycle waste streams that are hard-to-recycle, including snack wrappers/bags, disposable cups and lids, and coffee and tea capsules.

Subaru of America president and CEO Thomas Doll said: "At Subaru, we feel it's our personal responsibility to protect Earth's natural wonders and encourage our retailers and customers to engage in smart environmental practices, simply because it's the right thing to do.

"Through Subaru Loves the Earth, we are honored to partner with TerraCycle to empower local communities nationwide to think about recycling in new and meaningful ways."

Subaru said it will also encourage customers to collect waste streams at their home or office and bringing them into a local participating Subaru retailer.

The collected waste streams is planned to be converted into useful, recycled products including park benches, picnic tables, and playground materials.

Subaru said for further reference on recycling best practices, it will also share a list of Trash-Hacks, tips on limiting waste in everyday life.

In 2016, TerraCycle partnered with SUEZ to to develop new collection and recycling programs in Belgium, Finland, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Sweden.

Launched in 2003, TerraCycle is engaged in the collection and repurposing of hard-to-recycle postconsumer waste.

The firm has developed solutions to recycle a range of complex waste streams as well as sells Zero Waste Boxes to recycle items in offices, homes, factories and public facilities.
